Electrical Controls Engineer

Group: Material Handling Integration - MHI
Location: Orlando, FL
Position Type: Full Time | Exempt

Purpose: This position develops the detailed engineering information, drawings and documentation needed to define the electrical and control elements of material handling, warehouse and process operations.
The Electrical Automation Controls Engineer engages in a project after the consulting and applications engineering groups develop the basic system concept and remains involved in procurement, manufacturing, installation, integration, start-up and training of the system.

Essential Job Functions:
• Produce the detailed facility controls design and control equipment drawings for various material handling, warehouse and process operations (including computer control panels, motor control panels, power distribution panels, field bus communications designs, equipment controls including sensors, PLC’s and other controllers
• Develop the associated supporting documentation such as Equipment Specifications, Bills of Material and descriptions of operations
• Develop of the complete Technical Data package comprised of the documents described above
• Refine and complete the basic system concept and remain involved in procurement, manufacturing, installation, integration, start-up and training of the system
• Develop equipment technical and performance specifications for vendor selection process
• Review and evaluate vendor technical proposals to ensure they meet functional and technical requirements and participate in vendor selection
• Troubleshoot automated material handling equipment (i.e., motors, scanners, VFDs, photoeyes, encoders, etc.) and other electrical control equipment
• Report project progress and status to the Project Manager, other project team members, and the Department’s EVP
• Work closely in a team environment with development and project teams
• Communicate with other groups within Tompkins (i.e., project management, consulting, sales/proposal department, and installation manager)
• Work closely with clients and subcontractors
• Identify, initiate and implement improvement activities
• This position requires occasional on-call after-hours support

Job Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering or IE with 5-10 years experience
• Associate in Science EE or IE with 10-20 years experience
• This position requires up to 60% travel, returning home every week
• Developed AutoCAD Electrical skills
• Proficiency in M.S. Office Suite and M.S. Project
